Australian resources for journalists

OZ Guide to Internet Information Sources for Australian Journalists - a  comprehensive list of resources for journalists containing specialty topic areas, contacts and style guides. Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance contains information on the union which covers media personnel and journalists in Australia and the Australian Journalists Association Code of Ethics.
The Press Release Centre - a clearing house for Australian press releases from  business, industry and organisations The Institute of Public Affairs  - Australia's premier public affairs think-tank.
Australian Government Media Releases allows you to search through the federal government archive of media releases from the government and Ministers and provides the option to be notified via email of government announcements. The Prime Minister's Media Centre - search the Prime Minister's web site for speeches, press releases, interview transcripts or messages to the nation and subscribe to the PM's media email list to receive transcripts of interviews and press releases from his office.
Queensland State Parliament contains information on members and committees, Hansard reports and links to Queensland government web sites. Australian Commonwealth Government Entry Point provides access to Parliament, the Prime Minister's Office and all Federal government departments and services. 

Journalism research tools

Journalism Net - a top-notch resource for all journalists providing links to new organisations and news from around the world. Maintained by Canadian current affairs producer Julian Sher.

The Poynter Institute is a school for journalists and future journalists in the United State offering seminars and conducting research on all aspects of journalism. The site is a valuable resource containing up-to-date information and research on trends in the industry, media ethics and professional practice.

Kirk Lapointe's Journalism Page contains hundreds of links to media organisations and journalism resources organised under neat headings.  

Australian news organisations

Australian Newspapers Online - this National Library of Australia site provides links to local, regional and metropolitan Australian newspapers. News Corporation contains national and international news as well as links to News Corporation's newspapers around the country, including The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier Mail, The Advertiser and The Mercury.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation - access breaking news from ABC radio newsrooms, transcripts from ABC's various news and current affairs programs, as well as program information for Four Corners, Foreign Correspondent, Lateline, etc. Australian Financial Review

Media law, ethics and policy

Australian Media and Communication Authority is an independent federal statutory authority responsible for the regulation of the broadcasting industry. As well as planning the availability of segments of the broadcasting services bands (AM and FM radio and VHF and UHF television), the ABA has responsibility for the licensing, programming, and ownership and control of broadcasting services.
Australian Media Law and Policy Bibliography contains a list of publications on media law and policy dating from July 1996. A useful tool for research.
The Australian Centre for Independent Journalism is located at the University of Technology, Sydney

Pacific Media Watch is an  organisation which supports media freedom and examines issues of ethics, accountability, censorship, media freedom and media ownership in the Pacific region.
