Innovative, groundbreaking research to be put on display
The research evening will be held this Friday |
At groundbreaking research that has the potential to impact on our everyday lives is being carried out at the Toowoomba campus each day.
Unfortunately in many instances, the community are unaware of this research and much of this innovative work goes unnoticed.
This Friday (November 6) however, the University will take the opportunity to showcase to the public more than 250 projects across all faculties and research centres as part of its annual Community-Engaged Research Evening.
Faculty of Engineering and Surveying Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research)
Professor Frank Bullen said that the evening gave the University the chance to highlight some of the research that was being undertaken while also giving USQ the opportunity to connect with the community.
'Most research at universities is done with the community in mind; to advance the quality of life for people living in its region and this is true with USQ.
'In many cases though the public do not have an understanding of what we are doing here at the University so this is our chance to put on display our different research projects.
'From looking at the reuse of stormwater, impact of climate change and advances in agricultural engineering to research on sustainable business, many of the research projects that we have going at the University are applicable in the community.'
The evening also gave the public the chance to interact with researchers, which Professor Bullen said could sometimes spawn new research.
'It gives the community the opportunity to speak to our researchers and also give them feedback on their work, which can and has in the past led to new research.
'All of USQ’s five faculties and eight research centres will be represented through the research that will be showcased.'
USQ Chancellor Bobbie Brazil will officially open the event this Friday night, with Cr Peter Taylor Mayor Toowoomba Regional Council, Cr Joe Ramia, Cr Bill Cahill and Cr Carol Taylor also in attendance.
The evening will commence at 6pm in the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre at the University.
