USQ provides a number of avenues for employers to engage and connect with students.
Working with employers
Date: 11 – 15 November, 2019
Location: Online
USQ students are invited to participate in this event to assist in realising their career goals over a five-day, online career conference. The USQ Careers and Employability team and our industry guests will be providing the knowledge, tips and practical advice for succeeding at work and preparing for a successful career!
This online conference will provide opportunities for students to:
- Hear from the employer perspective on a range of topics from writing applications to the future world of work.
- Participate in one or all of the interactive activities including a mini Assessment Centre, Speed Networking or receive feedback on their interview skills.
- 15 presentations across five days providing knowledge, tips and practical advice on succeeding at work and preparing for a successful career.
How can you get involved?
We hope to have employer representatives engaged with as many initiatives over the week as possible. You will have the chance to profile your organisation to our students through participating as an employer guest during the presentations and/or connect and engage with them through the interactive activities.
All sessions will be held online using Zoom technology. Whether you're a guest in our webinar presentation or a participant in an activity we will provide you information and/or training on the technology and what's involved in the session. A USQ Career & Employability team member will be in touch closer to the event to organise a quick practice session with you.
Full schedule with availabilities for employer/industry involvement accessible here.
If you’re interested in finding out how you can be involved, please contact the USQ Careers and Employability (careers@usq.edu.au), we’d love to hear from you!

Our Career Mentoring program provides a great opportunity for employers to support emerging professionals. The program prepares students for the transition from university to employment by connecting them (the mentee) with an experienced industry professional (the mentor). Students develop the knowledge and networks necessary to achieve their career goals through a mentoring relationship.
USQ’s industry experience programs provide many benefits to both students and organisations alike. Our USQ Careers & Employability team manage the formalities of student placement within your organisation and USQ’s contract of insurance indemnifies the student and the Industry Experience provider against liability for personal injury or property damage suffered by the student, the Industry Experience provider or another person arising out of the work experience.
The Industry Experience Program
The Industry Experience Program assists students to develop employability skills and an understanding of the expectations within the role they are studying towards. This practical learning-based program allows an organisation to host a student for unpaid industry experience for up to 30 days over a designated period of time. It’s a great way to support emerging professionals and find like-minded, motivated and driven students.
Work Integrated Learning Program
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a compulsory component of a student’s course in selected disciplines. It provides a wide range of learning experiences undertaken by students to better prepare them for future employment. The work placement component allows students to work with a dedicated professional who can coach, mentor and supervise this important aspect of the student learning journey.
USQ frequently hosts a range of panels, presentations, workshops and partnership events, allowing employers to network with our students. These events enable organisations to promote career and graduate opportunities, support students in their transition to employment, showcase projects and achievements and improve the quality of future job candidates by communicating skill expectation.
USQ Access is a free online job board available to USQ students and graduates. Employers can advertise volunteer, job and graduate positions and reach over 28 000 registered students. Organisations can register and list a vacancy (615KB) online. We can also advertise and promote your organisation on a web banner for a fee.
In partnership with other Australian and New Zealand Universities, USQ offers past and current students access to digital versions of their transcripts, AHEGS and testamurs through My eQuals. This service provides employers the benefit of access to a secure centralised repository of credible candidate credentials. It also increases the efficiency of verifying and interpreting documents.
