# Drawing graphs

### Important features of linear graphs

Key features of graphs include:

• $$x$$ and $$y$$-intercepts — where the graph crosses each axis.
• Slope or gradient (especially important for linear/straight line graphs).

$\mbox{gradient} = \frac{\mbox{change is height ($$\Delta y$$)}}{\mbox{change in width ($$\Delta x$$)}}$

For example:

\begin{eqnarray*}
\mbox{gradient} &=& \frac{1.5}{3} \\
&=& 0.5
\end{eqnarray*}

• The $$y$$-intercept is at $$(0,0.5)$$.
• The $$x$$-intercept is at $$(-1,0)$$.
