Punctuation
Semi colons and colons
A semi colon [ ; ] makes a more definite statement than a comma. Use a semi colon to:
- separate items in a formal list
- avoid confusion within lists
- join two sentences that are closely linked.
A colon [ : ] is a cue that something is coming and is used to introduce:
- a long quote
- a list
- a word or phrase that qualifies a statement.
