Compound sentences
Coordinating conjuctions
They allow you to join two ideas of equal importance. They also allow you to show that two ideas are related in a specific way:
There are 7 main co-ordinating conjunctions. They show different relationships:
- for (adds a reason),
- and (adds a similar idea),
- nor (connects two negative ideas),
- but (adds equal different ideas),
- or (adds two equal ideas),
- yet (adds two equal ideas with a surprising result), and
- so (adds a result)
