### The median

The median is the middle score. It can be found by putting the data points in order from lowest to highest and finding the middle data point.

• If the number of data points is odd, then the median will be a exact value of the data.
• For example for the data points: $$11$$, $$12$$, $$14$$, $$15$$, $$18$$, the median (middle number) is $$14$$.
• It the number of data points is even, then the median will be the average of the middle two data points.
• For example for the data points: $$55$$, $$55$$, $$55$$, $$55$$, $$62$$, $$65$$, $$78$$, $$99$$, the middle two scores are $$55$$ & $$62$$, so the median will be $$58.5$$.
• Used for quantitative data.
