Subject-verb agreement with ‘to be’
- When you use the verb to be (e.g. am/is/are/was/were), remember to change the form according to the subject:
I am / was
you, we, they are / were
she, he, it is / was
- Remember this when you use any verb in the continuous tenses or in the passive voice; for example:
Those students [‘they’] are having problems with referencing.
We were having dinner when she arrived.
