Australian Postgraduate Research (APR) Intern

The Graduate Research School is excited to announce a new initiative available to USQ’s PhD students.

Australian Postgraduate Research (APR) Intern is Australia’s only all sector/all discipline PhD internship program. 

The APR.Intern program is an industry funded internship program, aiming to support industry-based training of PhD research students in all Australian universities, to increase employability and broaden business and university collaborations.

Internship placements are between three to five months in duration, and is open to women and men with an emphasis on gender equity and placing domestic, regional, Indigenous and disadvantaged PhD students into STEM internships. International students and students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply for this program. 

Student Information
Students benefit from the APR.Intern program by enhancing their employability, building industry networks, and applying their research skills in a professional environment. Students receive a $3,000 per month stipend payment.

Academic Mentor
Academic mentors play a vital role in the success of each APR.Intern internship. They provide guidance and steer the PhD student towards the project’s research goals. Research supervisors receive the benefit of enhanced industry collaboration, and a contribution of up to $5,500 towards their research account.

Business Information
APR.Intern can lead to priceless partnerships and relationships. PhDs unlock the innovation potential, and provide an alternative, cost-effective solution for challenges facing Australian businesses today. The program provides a platform for big business, SMEs and government agencies to connect with high-end PhD research expertise through short-term 3-5 month tightly focused and results driven projects. All project elated IP remains with the business.

This program is fully funded by industry partners, with eligible organisations receiving a 50% government rebate on all program fees.
