Costs and scholarships

Exchange costs

As a USQ student participating in an overseas exchange, you are required to pay the following:

  • tuition fees or student contribution to USQ
  • accommodation fees to the host university or accommodation provider (or directly to USQ if undertaking an ISEP exchange)
  • overseas health cover
  • visa application fees
  • travel insurance
  • all flights and appropriate transport
  • personal spending money and other associated living costs.

Study abroad costs

As a USQ student participating in a direct study abroad experience, you are required to pay the following:

  • tuition fees to the host university
  • accommodation fees to the host university or accommodation provider
  • overseas health cover
  • visa application fees
  • travel insurance
  • all flights and appropriate transport
  • personal spending money and other associated living costs.

You will be required to show USQ proof of your overseas health cover and travel insurance prior to leaving and complete an overseas risk assessment sheet.

Short-term program costs

The cost of short-term programs can differ. These may sometimes include tuition and accommodation as part of the package. Please email studyabroad@usq.edu.au for more information.

Funding options

There are several funding options available to help make your dream of studying abroad a reality:

OS-HELP loan

The OS-HELP loan provides financial assistance to Australian students wishing to study abroad. Candidates may be eligible for up to AUD6000 for each semester abroad.

USQ International Study Abroad Grants

Study Abroad Grants of AUD500 for short term programs (less than a semester) and AUD2000 for semester or year-long programs may be available for eligible applicants. Please email studyabroad@usq.edu.au for more information.

Department of Education Endeavour funding

Endeavour Mobility Grants of up to AUD5000 may be available. These are subject to availability and eligibility and are for exchange students only.

New Colombo Plan Scholarships program

The New Colombo Plan Scholarship program provides opportunities for Australian undergraduates, aged 18-28 to undertake semester-based study in participating Indo-Pacific locations. The scholarships are awarded once each year and students will compete with others from Australian universities. The scholarships are valued at approximately AUD26000 per semester.

New Colombo Plan Mobility Program

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Program provides funding to Australian undergraduate students to participate in short-term study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research in 40 host locations across the Indo-Pacific region. Currently there are five such programs available at USQ through faculty led courses. 

These include community-nursing experience in Vietnam; mechanical engineering programs in Sri Lanka; short film and ceramics programs in Japan and teacher placement in Indonesia. The mobility programs are valued at AUD3000 per student. Please email studyabroad@usq.edu.au about how to apply.
