The "Have a Go" Kendo Open Day presents a rare opportunity for the Toowoomba community to come and try Kendo under the guidance of some of Queensland's best teachers and practitioners, including members of the Queensland State Squad competing at this year's Australian Kendo Championships.
This is a free event, and everyone from age 7-87 can participate. No prior experience in any martial art is necessary. Come and watch the earlier practice from 10.00am to get a feel of what kendo can look (and sound) like, and then pick up the shinai (bamboo practice sword) yourself from 11.45am and "Have a Go"!
Kendo is the modern sport and martial art based on the ancient sword traditions of the Japanese Samurai. It is a sport with a long history at the Australian University Games, and we are looking to again send a USQ team to the National Championships in September.
