About the Workshop

Portraiture has historically been the most dynamic and expressive subject for artists.  In this workshop we will examine the structure of the human face, the bones, muscles and skin tones and explore how this can be interpreted with colour and brushstrokes.  We will be working from a live costumed model and will examine how lighting angles affect the appearance of forms.  Participants will work from a different angle each day to ensure they gain a full understanding of the facial structure.  Robyn will work on several demonstration pieces to illustrate different approaches.  We will have the benefit of a skull and plaster casts of facial features to work from, although participants will approach painting in a contemporary way.
