2015 USQ Learning and Teaching Grant Scheme

In early 2015, the Academic Services Division invited applications from USQ staff for the following grant opportunities for the 2015 Academic year. Applications are now closed.

The USQ Learning and Teaching Communities will promote and support learning and teaching initiatives within USQ. The aim is to generate projects that provide institutional impact as well as enhance the capacity to investigate and resolve specific issues that are of key importance to USQ. This opportunity will also provide a path for USQ to identify and support potential future OLT grant applications. Based on Professor Milton Cox’s notion of learning communities, the USQ Learning and Teaching Communities will enable the University’s academic and professional staff to come together (via a competitive process) to work on a learning and teaching issue of importance to USQ. Each Community will receive between $10,000 and $20,000 to support their scholarly activities. Each Community will work on one of the pre-identified priority areas which are: experiential learning; academic start-up skills for Higher Degree Research and multimodal education.

The USQ Open Textbook Initiative is designed to encourage the use of technology and information resources to support our students’ learning and support academic staff who are interested in pursuing non-traditional open educational resources as an alternative to the traditional textbook. The goal of the initiative is to provide the opportunity to explore new, better and less costly ways to deliver materials to students. Through the initiative successful academics will receive funding (four grants to the value of $15,000 each) to develop an alternative to the traditional textbook. These academics will form a Community of Practice and meet regularly to discuss the issues and collaboratively explore ideas.
