A number of alumni featured in USQ’s 50/25 commemorative book, University of Southern Queensland: 50 Years 50 Stories, attended the official launch held Friday April 28, 2017
University of Southern Queensland: 50 Years 50 Stories is a coffee-table book created to commemorate USQ’s 50th year as a higher education institution and 25th year as a university. It features the stories of a diverse-cross section of USQ alumni, whose memories and experiences provide a snapshot of the institute’s history, achievements and milestones.
More than 300 guests attended the official launch, which was held at USQ Toowoomba. Guest speakers and USQ alumni, Chancellor John Dornbusch, Peter Grant and Kathryn Campbell CSC, all of who are profiled in the book, shared their memories of their association with the University.
“USQ has been a part of my life since I first stepped foot on campus as a student in 1972,” Chancellor Dornbusch said.
“To read about the stories of other USQ graduates, and to see so many members of the USQ and wider community coming together to celebrate USQ’s 50/25 year is truly amazing.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Janet Verbyla said USQ: 50 Years 50 Stories is a unique piece of history for all proud USQ alumni.
“A portion of the proceeds from all sales of the book will go to the USQ Student Endowment Fund,” she said.
“By purchasing the book, readers will not only have a keepsake from USQ’s 50/25 year, they will also learn about the University’s history through the success stories of its alumni, while contributing to study opportunities for future students.”
The commemorative book is one element of a year of celebration for the University, with other international and domestic 50/25 events being held throughout 2017.
Excitement is already building for the USQ Anniversary Dinner Celebration being held Friday 7 July 2017. Headline acts for the evening include cabaret sensation Bethan Ellsmore and Australian comedy legends, Tripod. Tickets are available at usq.edu.au/50-25/events.
USQ: 50 Years 50 Stories is $39.95 and can be purchased from Omnia Books & Beyond at USQ Toowoomba, USQ Springfield and USQ Ipswich or online at usq.edu.au/50-25.
