2016 winners St Ursula’s College Team 1 - Haylee Dare, Olivia Nilan, Taleesha Marshall, Julia Bigg, Sarah Lindley and Kaitlyn Beattie-Zard.
The Challenge inspires students to work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers by providing an experience that is very different to their school classrooms.
Year 10 students from across the Darling Downs will battle it out over four days by building bridges, wiring cities, creating Mars rovers, constructing earthquake-proof towers and building a bionic hand.
The Science and Engineering Challenge aims to encourage students in year 10 to consider a future career in science and engineering by choosing to study sciences and mathematics in years 11 and 12.
The Challenge is presented by USQ and The University of Newcastle, with sponsorship from Nexus, Rotary Toowoomba East, Toowoomba Regional Council, Engineers Australia and Ashburner Francis Consulting Engineers.
Also, USQ Springfield will host the Queensland State Final of the Science and Engineering Challenge on Wednesday September 6 2017, featuring winning teams from throughout the state.
