USQ a family affair for the Crispins

USQ study material spread across every surface is a usual sight at the Crispin family household in Warwick.

Eldest daughter Madison graduated in 2018 completing a Sport and Exercise Science degree, while her mother Anita will graduate with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology this week.

Meanwhile, father Jayson and second eldest daughter Olivia are studying Engineering and Human Services respectively.

The scholarly family will be out in force to celebrate Anita’s success at the USQ Toowoomba graduation ceremony for Health & Community, and Sciences graduands on Friday (April 5) morning.

It will be followed by three other ceremonies - Engineering & Built Environment that afternoon, and ‘Business & Commerce; Information Technology; Law & Justice’ and ‘Creative Arts & Media; Education; Humanities & Communication’ the following Friday (April 12).

Anita’s education journey has been a juggle between study, child raising and work, but she said it was an incredibly rewarding experience.

“I have always loved to learn, and this was made possible with the great support I received from USQ lecturers and Student Services, not to mention the tremendous amount of help from family and friends as well.”

Anita said her life was very different than when she decided to enrol in 2011.

“I was working in casual jobs that weren't motivating, and that I didn't enjoy. I needed mental stimulation, and thought, ‘What have I got to lose?’," she said.

“USQ not only provided me with a great learning environment but also with an opportunity to connect with my current employer.

“I’m now working for a non-government organisation, using the knowledge I've learned in a job that is fulfilling, working alongside clients to facilitate positive changes in their lives.

“I’m passionate about working together to make my community a better place. I think that comes from having a large family, it makes you realise that we are just the small part of a bigger picture.”

The Crispin family USQ connection continues – Anita has enrolled in Honours with the University, alongside her husband and second daughter who are still currently studying their undergraduate degrees.

“I guess it won’t be long until the other four are also studying at USQ”, she laughed.

“I have a son in Year 11, twins in Year 9, and my youngest is in Year 5.

“The least I can do is give them some insider information to help them prepare for the life of a university student!”
