USQ NAIDOC Presentation

USQ welcomed local artists and the community for a NAIDOC Presentation in Toowoomba yesterday (July 10).

NAIDOC Week is held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by all Australians.

Guest speakers included Jarowair Traditional Owner Aunty Vanessa Fischer, Koori Mail’s Naomi Moran, Registered Nurse and USQ Alumni Francis Nona and USQ Elder in Residence Uncle Wayne Fossey.

Attendees worked with Indigenous artist Kim Walmsley and Dr Robyn Heckenberg (CISER) to create a collective canvas.

It will be displayed in conjunction with the USQ NAIDOC Art Exhibition.

The 2019 NAIDOC theme is ‘VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH - Let’s work together for a shared future’.
