Today he can add one more, officially receiving a Doctor of Business from the University of Southern Queensland.
The honorary title was conferred today at a small ceremony at the University which was held in lieu of Graduations, which were cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Berghofer was one amongst several notable recipients, including the University’s former Deputy Chancellor Jan Boys who was made an honorary Doctor of the University, for dedicating 43 years of her working life to education in Queensland.
Rohan Gosstray was also among the list of awardees, receiving the award of Fellow of the University for his services to media and the local community.
Other recipients included disability advocate and author Sharon Boyce who received an honorary Doctor of Letters, Lifeline Darling Downs CEO Derek Tuffield OAM who was made a Fellow of the Unviersity, as well as local community identities Barbara Thelander and Lea Rapoport, and former long-time University staff member Jane Farmer who were all made Fellows of the University.
The ceremony was hosted by Chancellor John Dornbusch and Vice-Chancellor Professor Geraldine Mackenzie, who said that honorary titles were conferred only after great deliberation, and reflected the significant contribution of the recipients to the University and the broader community.
“Universities award honorary doctorates and other honorary titles as a means of recognising outstanding personal achievements across a wide range of endeavours,” Mr Dornbusch said.
“My heartiest congratulations to each of today’s eight recipients.”
“These awards are the culmination of many years of hard work and commitment.
“It is your ability to persevere and continue on in spite of any impediments that have led you to this day.
“Today you join a small but remarkable group of honorary awardees and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, especially in the ever-changing world in which we live.”
