USQ academics cheer on Brisbane's 2032 Olympic victory

University of Southern Queensland experts are available for comment on the below topics:

Brisbane has just been named the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Host City, and University of Southern Queensland experts can discuss their areas of expertise and issues relating to the announcement.

Brisbane was last night formally declared as host of the 2032 Summer Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said an Olympics in Brisbane would be a once-in-a-generation economic boon for the state, but will the benefits be felt in rural and regional areas?

Professor John McVeigh is Executive Director of the University of Southern Queensland’s Institute for Resilient Regions. He can discuss how Brisbane’s 2032 Games will provide a boost for local and regional communities, what significant infrastructure projects might be fast-tracked and the knock-on effects for the economy and society at large.

Tourism and development expert Professor Jane Summers says the win will be a great opportunity for south-east Queensland communities, which can engage with the Olympics movement at a grass roots level. She says instead of being an abstract event run by the Federal Government, the 2032 Olympics will be something every person can have a role in.

*Please note Professor Summers is available Friday.
