In this study, various factors that affect the adoption of electronic health record (HER) in Australia would be identified and explored so as to arrive at a conceptual model that can be empirically tested later. Considering the vast amount of resources being dedicated to EHR adoption in Australia, identifying barriers especially on an organisation level to the adoption of EHR is essential for its success. Many studies have been conducted to understand barriers to the adoption of EHRs in Australia; however, there has been lack in conducting a study on an organisation level concentrate only on this level in order to explore the challenges and obstacles that facing the organisations. The results of this study can inform strategies to policy makers to tailor adoption strategies toward factors that motivate adoption.
