Learning analytics is a brave new field purporting to give us insight on how to encourage students to work harder and smarter but does it recklessly result in reducing learning to grades and satisfaction to engagement.
What are the responsibilities of universities when harnessing big data to identify learning and teaching deficits? How do we go about ensuring that this tide of data is managed responsibly to the greatest benefit of the student? This presentation will explore findings from learning analytics research on benefits to learning and teaching practice while taking a hard look at the pitfalls that could ultimately disadvantage educators and students.
