This presentation will provide an overview of the history of breeding in tea tree , strategies and associated activities.
Merv Shepherd is a geneticist with over 25 years' experience researching native and exotic forest trees or industrial tree crops. Dr Shepherd's presentation will be on the tea tree breeding program at Southern Cross University. The presentation will provide an overview of the history of breeding in tea tree, the strategy and objectives of the current program, and some of the associated pre-breeding activities; including the sequencing of the Melaleuca genome and rapid phenotyping methods for assessing oil composition and yield.
