This paper tackles the current state of intelligence within disaster management, in particular the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) and highlights the advantages a fulltime intelligence cell could yield if implemented. QFES literature and current operating procedures will be challenged and implicit operational dynamics, such as critical decision making, interoperability, span of control and a common operating pictures analysed with the advantage of intelligence professionals. Through interviewing of key personnel within QFES and current disaster management intelligent practices, a path forward will be found for the enhancement of intelligence through a central point of information gathering, analysing and distribution.
