This research project aims to explore the influence of agency and activism through feminist newspapers and the local, national and transnational connections between women’s organisations in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America during the international suffrage and peace movements between 1900 and 1925. By analysing eight feminist periodicals this project intends to investigate how women communicated their aims for equality and world peace through a comparative method and transnational approach. It analyses the role of the feminist press primarily through ‘letters to the editor’, articles and advertisements, and secondly through reports of congresses and personal correspondence between editors, to explore the extent of women’s newspapers in effectively communicating the predominant feminist principle of suffrage.
