Collaborative Synchronous Coaching for Social Justice
This research will address the multidimensional challenge of social justice and inequality in education within New Zealand. This is explored through two critical elements of Initial Teacher Education (ITE), (1) the facilitation of a ‘third space’ to enable collaboration between ITE provider and the school of the preservice teacher, and (2) the provision of equitable access to consistent high quality feedback and timely professional coaching to support preservice teacher efficacy in teaching for social justice. Bug-in-ear technology will enable ‘Collaborative Synchronous Coaching’ (CSC) within the triad. Critical participatory action research will develop three distinct stages, (1) technical proof of concept for CSC, (2) best practice in application of CSC and (3) CSC as a tool to support teaching for social justice.
