How can human experience within art and architecture inform the making of cultural identity? This PhD will investigate the transformative ability of art-making as a tool to reveal and preserve the hidden potential within the everyday architectural environment. The hidden potential of these mundane spaces refers to their function as universally recognisable vessels for memory through the lived human experience within such spaces – a function that persists despite the fluctuating nature of an environment dictated by constant redevelopment. The conceptual premise of the research tethers memories to the experience of architectural contexts and explores the significance of this personal memory-production to the formation of broader contemporary cultural identities.
