Notwithstanding the increase in the number of STEM qualified women in the Australian workforce, they remain significantly under-represented in senior leadership roles. This research aims to stimulate lasting systemic change by promoting the participation, retention and advancement of women in STEM, through the application of entrepreneurial leadership in tackling barriers to career progression and developing innovation solutions. There is a dearth of research on the entrepreneurial intentions and entrepreneurial leadership capabilities of Australian women in STEM, and no specific framework that is tailored to their leadership development. The project will fill these gaps by developing a framework to shape women leaders for the 21st century who will proactively identify opportunities and act under uncertain circumstances in a rapidly changing business environment.
