Exposure to traumatic events is an inherent part of the role for Emergency Services personnel, and as such, poses some unique challenges and risks in relation to mental health. This research project seeks to better understand the complex needs of QFES personnel during disaster situations and extreme events, to further enhance the support services that promote optimal mental health for QFES personnel. The research project will adopt a mixed method approach in the form of qualitative semi structured interviews and quantitative surveys to explore opinions and preferences on psycho-social support needs. The research findings will inform QFES policy and practices, as well as contribute to the body of research literature in the fields of disaster management and psychology.
