This study examines people's careers after the experience of being involuntarily dismissed from their job. Around 14,000 dismissals occur annually in Australian workplace that result in an unfair dismissal application to the Fair Work Commission (FWC 2020). The proposed study pursues the much under-examined line of unfair dismissal research by exploring authentic and individual ex-employee career recovery experiences post an unfair dismissal claim. This qualitative study will adopt an interpretivist approach and phenomenological method to explore the lived career-recovery experiences of unfairly dismissed employees in terms of their career motivation, career growth and economic well-being; and how their experience of work-related identity loss and recovery from the unfair dismissal was associated with their career recovery, and ultimately, their future career success in both subjective and objective terms.
