Climate risk in dairy farming is complicated and pervasive. Extreme climate risk such as heatwaves, drought, and heavy rainfall translates into production and price risks, which significantly impact the income and profitability of dairy farmers. Therefore, there is a critical need to develop the right mix of risk management strategies to manage extreme climate risk.

Therefore, the study aims to examine the potential climate risks affecting milk production of small rural dairy farmers, analyzing risk perceptions, and risk management and risk transfer strategies, and examine drivers of adoption of insurance products, and their WTP. This study will be targeted toward small dairy farmers in southern India. The study is expected to produce targeted risk management and risk transfer (insurance) strategies for small dairy farmers to cope with climate change and variability.
