USQ welcomed ARC Kathleen Fitzpatrick Laureate Fellow, Joy Damousi, Professor of History in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne. In 2017, Professor Damousi was elected President of the Australian Academy of the Humanites.
Despite the many inroads women on the land have made in Australia, the popular image of farming continues to be seen as a male domain. The Invisible Farmer project aims to address this misconception. As the first national study of farm women in Australia, this project seeks to empower farm women to reclaim their history, promote greater awareness of the value of inclusion and reveal structures of gender inequality in rural communities. In this public lecture, the project’s chief investigator, Professor Joy Damousi, outlined the important roles women have played on the land from 1900 to the present.
