Our world-class research in archaeology, history and heritage studies seeks to understand past societies and cultures and their significance in the present. Aligned research in cultural studies, literature, law and creative arts pursue and deepen our knowledge of contemporary regional communities.

The Archaeology of Frontier Conflict in Queensland
USQ’s Archaeology on the Frontier project attempted the first ever systematic archaeological research into frontier conflict between European settlers and Aboriginal traditional owners in Queensland in the 19th century. The Native Mounted Police Force (NMP) was a largely unacknowledged part of Australia history until recently.
