Overview

  • Study social justice issues in local, national, and international arenas to become a better informed citizen and community leader.
  • Develop a blend of critical appraisal, communication skills, and conflict resolution abilities needed to tackle tasks such as community consultation and policy analysis.
  • The Social Justice major complements any field of study. Social Justice would make a suitable second major for students in law, environmental engineering, economics, history, business, international relations and education.

Career outcomes

  • Graduates will acquire skills for international humanitarian careers with organisations such as Oxfam International or UNICEF. Additional roles include social justice specialist, consultant with government agencies or non-government organisations (NGOs), public administration, city planning, mental health administration, think tank research, public defender, policy advocate or lobbyist.

Starting uni in 2021?

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C)

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

To complete this degree students must complete 24 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.
