What do you learn when studying a Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies?

What you will learn when you study a Bachelor of Design (or equivalent) will vary depending on the education provider you choose.

At UniSQ all our Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies students study industry relevant core courses that provide you with the transferrable skills to thrive in a variety of Media and Communication environments. These courses include learnings on:

What Design and Interactive Technologies major will suit me?

This will vary depending on your personal and professional goals. Design and technology degrees go by a variety of different names such as a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Game Design so it can feel like challenge looking at all your options.

A good place to start is thinking about your experience in the industry and what you're passionate about. Once you identify what you love about design it will help bring out your strengths when it comes to choosing what design and technology degree is right for you. At UniSQ we offer two different specialisations.

Apps & Interactive Systems Development - Through apps development, game environment production, and exploring augmented systems, you will develop the cutting-edge skills required for entry and success in these emerging and exciting fields.

Digital Media - Develop your creativity as well as analytical and technical skills, and build a portfolio of work in digital media and interactive system design, animation and production, and digital media content/project management.

What are the entry requirements?

In most instances, to qualify for entry into undergraduate design and technology degrees such as a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Game Design you will require an ATAR. These entry requirements will vary depending on the education provider you choose.

At UniSQ, to gain entry into our Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies you need to meet a minimum ATAR and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree.

If you don’t have an ATAR, don’t worry! You can partake in an interview to apply for entry into a Design and Interactive Technology degree at UniSQ.

Are there opportunities for industry experience or internships during the degree?

You will have many opportunities to put theory into practice when you study a design and technology degree at UniSQ. You will gain practical, hands-on experience to prepare you for commercial and independent design career paths. Our Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies degrees focus on creating high-quality creative output and learning essential professional skills, including working to client briefs and collaborating in team environments.

Continue to enhance your practical skills by attending residential schools. This provides you with the opportunity to experience hands-on practical activities, attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials, use facilities, and meet academics and other students. You may need to attend residential schools at various times through the year (typically in the mid-semester break) and be away from home for days or a few weeks at a time.

Through real-world practical projects in digital media production, apps development, game environment production, and augmented/virtual reality systems, you will develop the innovative skills required for entry and success in these emerging and exciting fields. 

What are the career opportunities for those with a Bachelor of Design and Interactive Technologies qualification?

All of our degrees focus on developing your ability to apply the skills and knowledge you’ve gained to the career of your choice. Graduating with a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Game Design qualification (or equivalent) opens up many career prospects.
