Enhance your knowledge in Applied Linguistics
USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Education (Applied Linguistics) is ideal if you work with second language speakers and their communities, or in the fields of speech therapy and pathology, allied health, psychology or training in a variety of settings that requires skills in communication management and cross-cultural interaction.
This four course degree, allows you to enhance your knowledge and skills as a facilitator of learning in second language contexts and to critically reflect on language related issues.
Pathway to further study
After completing the Graduate Certificate of Education (Applied Linguistics) with a minimum GPA of 4.0, you will have the option to take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Master of Education (Applied Linguistics).
If you do not achieve a GPA of 4.0, you may have the option to continue your studies with a Graduate Diploma of Education (Applied Linguistics) before moving on to a Master of Education (Applied Linguistics) (provided other program entry requirements are met).
Note: This program does not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. To qualify for teacher registration in Queensland, please refer to the Master of Learning and Teaching.
Applied linguistics is a useful complement to a range of intercultural learning and language development professions. New employment opportunities abroad are available in companies that employ graduates with problem-solving and analytical skills in international relations with second language users in the workplace.
There is also demand among administrators and teachers in classrooms, in Indigenous communities associated with sectors such as Education, Health and Industry.

You may not have to pay your course (subject) fees upfront. FEE-HELP allows you to defer your fees until your income reaches a certain level.

English Language Requirements
You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.
