Overview

  • USQ’s Graduate Diploma of Education (TESOL) is designed for aspiring leaders in the field of English language teaching and extends their skills and knowledge in courses of the ways in which language is acquired, learned and used in a variety of contexts among a range of age groups.
  • You will have the opportunity to extend your study in the areas of language assessment, digital technologies and multimedia, applications to language and literacy assessment and language program management. You can hone skills in teaching from younger learners across to adults, incorporating skills for curriculum teaching and in languages additional to English with an additional option of 20-hour TESOL practicum.
  • Broaden your knowledge of the importance of language and your knowledge of contemporary English language teaching methodology.
  • This specialisation does not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. You can qualify for teacher registration in Queensland with the Master of Learning and Teaching (Early Years), Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary) or Master of Learning and Teaching (Secondary).

Further study

Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Education (TESOL) will qualify you to apply for the Master of Education (TESOL).

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

To complete this degree students must complete 8 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.
