Overview

  • Build upon your prior knowledge in Civil Engineering with advanced studies in areas such as design, structural analysis and hydraulics.
  • Your capstone course will see you work as part of a student civil design team to work on real world industry topics.

Further study

Graduates from the Master of Engineering Practice are eligible to be considered for higher research degrees such as the Master of Research or PhD studies.

Professional accreditation

The program is accredited by Engineers Australia and graduates are eligible for Graduate membership at the Professional Engineer level.

Career outcomes

  • As a civil engineering graduate your career pathway could be as a civil engineer, construction engineer, structural engineer, transport engineer or water supply distribution engineer in either the public or private sector.
  • There are great opportunities for travel with consulting and contracting engineers often moving from one major engineering site to another.

Entry requirements

  • Australian university three year Bachelor degree in engineering science or engineering technology in the relevant specialisation area, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years' relevant professional work experience.
  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident; citizen of New Zealand or holder of a valid visa with a duration of at least three years.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Residential schools

If you are enrolled in the External study mode in this degree, you will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials, use the facilities and meet staff and other students.
