Professional accreditation

The Psychology specialisation will seek accreditation by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will be required to undertake the compulsory courses within this specialisation in order to meet this accreditation.

As a graduate of the Master of Research, you will develop fundamental research skills and specialist area knowledge that will enhance your career prospects or enable you to proceed to further higher degree by research studies.

Entry requirements

  • Completed a 3-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent, with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above, or equivalent score, in a relevant discipline

or

  • Completed a 3-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent, and have successfully completed a coursework masters, with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above, or equivalent score, in a relevant discipline

plus

  • acceptance will be subject to the availability of, and endorsement by, a UniSQ supervisor.

  • In addition to the above, students in the Psychology research specialisation will need to have completed an APAC-accredited 3-year sequence undergraduate program in psychology and to be current in the area of psychology. This means students need to have commenced their studies in an APAC-accredited program no earlier than 8 years previous to the year of application and have satisfied requirements for the award of the degree no more than 3 years previously. The rationale for this is to ensure students can still demonstrate a breadth/depth of knowledge, skills, and application in psychology and meet APAC competencies.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Professional experience

You have the opportunity to participate in an optional industry internship placement relevant to your research area.

Internships provide HDR students with the opportunity to establish professional networks, enhance employability outcomes, demonstrate and strengthen professional and research skills and gain experience professional experience.   

Internships require approval from your Primary Supervisor and the Graduate Research School.

Internships can be self-sourced or facilitated by a third-party provider. The Graduate Research School can provide guidance on navigating potential internship opportunities.

You will then also need to submit a Direct Entry application form together with other information as specified by the Graduate Research School. You must receive approval from your research supervisor for the proposed study plan and thesis topic prior to confirmation of acceptance.
