This series, facilitated by senior lecturer Dr Ashley Jones will be held over four weeks on a Thursday afternoon, starting Thursday 7 May 2020. These workshops are designed to stand on their own, allowing year 10, 11 and 12 students the opportunity to take control of their own learning journey by attending individual workshops or all four in the series.
Media Fundamentals 1: Introduction to Audio
This workshop will consider sound. What is sound? Is silence a sound? Throughout the workshop participants will learn about the notion of sound design and will provided with an introduction to some types of microphones, including why we use different microphones in a variety of settings.

Media Fundamentals 2: Agenda Setting and Media in Society
This workshop will provide some concepts around how we think of the influence and power that media organisations possess. How is this power used, why use it and a discussion around the role of media in our society will be the primary aims of the workshop.

Media Fundamentals 3: How a Camera works and Shot Composition
This workshop will cover the basic principles of how video cameras work. Participants will look at the various types of shots used in video production and why they are used. Discussion points will include the Rule of Thirds and some guiding principles of shot composition.

Media Fundamentals 4: Production Management
Throughout the final workshop, participants will be taken through the four stages of production management including, how and why these are important to work through. It will take participants from a big idea to the reality of producing a production for audience consumption.
