Head Start Mentors
Support while you study
We understand that becoming a university student while you are still at High School is really rewarding but equally daunting. We want you to enjoy every moment of your semester at USQ so we're connecting you with a Head Start Mentor when your course begins.
What is the Head Start mentor program?
As a Head Start Student, you will have your very own USQ Student Mentor to guide you through every step of the process; an experienced student who you can call upon any time during the semester to point you in the right direction, or offer some great tips for success.
Who will be my mentor?
Our USQ Student Mentors are all current USQ students who are usually studying a course in a similar area to you (subject to availability). They are also experienced and qualified Student Ambassadors, who have been assessed on their reliability and leadership qualities. Some of our mentors have completed a Head Start course before, and all of them know exactly how it feels to start university for the first time.
How will my mentor help me?
Your mentor will be available throughout your semester at USQ. You may wish to contact them for any issues you have such as accessing and navigating your student email and study desk, handing in your first assignment, preparing for your exam, or if you just need someone to chat to.
Your mentor will contact you throughout the semester via email and host regular online check-ins via Zoom, just to see how you are going with your studies.
When will I meet my mentor?
Your mentor will reach out to you towards the start of semester to introduce themselves and let you know when they will be holding the online drop in sessions.
Do I have to have a mentor?
It's not compulsory to have a Head Start Mentor, but we're pretty sure you'll appreciate the chance to have someone to call upon if you have any issues. If you do wish to 'opt out' of the mentoring program, please let the Future Students Team know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning +61 7 4635 5550.
