As a young dancer, Nick Britnell made a life for himself on the stage, but today he’s thriving as a Communications Officer at USQ. This is his journey.
Nick’s talent and passion for the performing arts took him from Toowoomba to train at Sydney's world-renowned performing arts school, ED5 International. After completing his training, Nick landed work at Tokyo’s Disney Resort and London.
From student to employee: Loving life at USQ
Deciding to take a break from theatre to return home to Toowoomba, Nick enrolled in a Bachelor of Communications at USQ. At first, he simply intended to broaden his skill set. Yet, the experience became so much more. As Nick puts it, ‘I really enjoyed my course and learning new skills in writing, social media and public relations. I found that the encouragement and support from my lecturers and the services available helped me stay motivated and engaged – I became more and more determined to finish my degree and see where it took me.’
In 2018, during his final year of studying, Nick joined USQ as a Social Engagement Officer, allowing him to put what he’d learned into practice. Nick says USQ provided him an opportunity to be creative again and contribute in a meaningful way to support students along their learning journey, just as he had been. Nick was proud to not only graduate with Distinction but receive the Public Relations Institute of Australia Prize and be invited to join the Golden Key Members Society.
Looking to the future, Nick is optimistic he can pave his own unique career with the skills he has developed both as a student and as a professional at USQ. 'USQ is so encouraging of whatever you want to do. I may study a Masters, or undertake another overseas contract ... I’m open to anything!'
