Support for aspiring or pre-service teachers

Teach Queensland offers a number of programs, scholarships and grants to help you begin your teaching journey and provide support for new and returning teachers. Here you can find useful information about Aspiring Teacher Grants, the Pearl Duncan Teaching Scholarship and Teacher Education Centres of Excellence. 

UniSQ interest free loans are also available for educational costs incurred whilst on placement (e.g., travel, professional attire). Department of Education Grants for Semester 2 2023 - Opening Soon!

The Department of Education’s Semester 2 2023 Regional Professional Experience Grant (RPE grant) and the Beyond the Range Professional Experience Grant (BTR grant) will soon be available via the respective Smart Jobs websites.You can sign up here to receive an email when the grants open.

The grants provide an opportunity for eligible preservice teachers to complete a (minimum consecutive) 15-day professional experience placement (placement) that is at least 2 hours (each way) from their current residence to a Queensland state school that has a transfer rating of 2-3 (RPE grant) or a transfer rating of 4-7 (BTR grant) and is located within a priority region.

Grant recipients will receive a one-off grant (between $2250-$3400 for the RPE grant and $3375-$5000 for the BTR grant) to assist with organising placement-related travel expenses.

Department of Education: Remote Preparation and Transition Program for Term 3

The Term 3 intake of the Remote Preparation and Transition Program, presented and delivered by current discrete community teachers and leaders. All preservice teachers either considering opportunities or commencing in our discrete (and remote) communities are offered the opportunity to engage in this professional learning piece, as it provides exposure to topics and themes that those who’ve walked this road previously.

All sessions are held via Microsoft Teams, are free of charge and registration information is included in the link above. This program is full of learning, that will complement their university studies, with real life application and ‘back pocket’ strategies they can utilise in the classroom environment.

Enhance your final year of study with our TECe Edge program. We’ll set you up for success to have the best start to teaching!

This opportunity is for students graduating in 2022/23 interested in teaching in regional, rural, remote and high priority state schools across Queensland.

Early bird applications for our 2022 program are now open. Secure a position before our major application round next semester. To express your interest and request an application form, email your name, university, course and graduation year to tece@kelvingrovesc.eq.edu.au.

International placements 

Teach beyond the borders of Australian classrooms and expand your intercultural experience in an international environment by applying to complete one of your teaching placements in Indonesia. Eligible students may receive up to $3500 of funding towards this placement. You can also choose to organise your own international placement. Any individually sourced placement proposals should be discussed with the Work Integrated Learning Team prior to the submission of the Professional Experience Placement Application form (Form A) (PDF 304KB).

The number of international professional experience placements is limited due to accreditation requirements. Applications for any school placement overseas will be considered on its merit and suitability to fulfil relevant course requirements.
