What does a social worker do?

As a Social Worker (sometimes known as a Case Worker) you could help improve the lives of communities, families and individuals who are facing emotional, social, and economic challenges. So what does a Social Worker do? The day-to-day role of a Social Worker can involve assessing the needs of clients, developing care plans, advocating for clients and providing counselling, support and education. Working alongside other professionals, you might also help clients to access things such as housing, healthcare, or education.

The different types of Social Worker roles can be quite diverse and there are many areas you can specialise in; for example, you might become a Mental Health Social Worker, a Family Social Worker, or a Criminal Justice Social Worker.  

Is a career as a social worker right for me?

The role of a Social Worker often appeals to people who are passionate about helping others. Other skills and attributes beneficial for a career in social work include:
