Overview

  • Shape your career with your creative talents to activate positive change and generate wellbeing in diverse communities with UniSQ’s Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing (Theatre).
  • You will combine foundation studies in human services with courses in, for example, educational theatre, community theatre, and acting for the digital medium to expand your creativity, facilitation and leadership skills, and understanding of the needs of community care and development.
  • Become industry-ready by undertaking a project placement in a community organisation during your final year of study.
  • UniSQ welcomes applications in the form of an interview and audition for students without an ATAR. Read more below under 'degree structure'.

Upon successful completion of this degree, you can go on to study the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours).

Career outcomes

  • Graduates will have the necessary skills to collaborate with health providers, local governments, and community organisations and undertake arts-led service initiatives.
  • Work in the creative industries and apply your talents and abilities in other areas like community services (youth, indigenous, aged, refugee, homeless, unemployed, disability etc.), hospitals/allied health, correctional services, local government, and charity organisations.

Entry requirements

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C)

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at Year 12 high school level. Find out more about assumed knowledge.

  • Attend an interview with selected creative arts major discipline staff to confirm satisfactory capacity to participate in practical courses. For registration and audition tips, please see our Auditions and interviews page. Please note that you will need to apply for your degree before registering to audition.

Note: It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing. Further information about the Blue Card or Exemption Card suitability process is available from the Blue Card Services.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

*The second 8-unit major can be chosen from any approved 8-unit major in another discipline in the School of Creative Arts (e.g. Music, Visual Art, TV/Radio, Film Production etc.) or from a recommended major outside of the creative arts, such as Child and Family Studies, Health and Social Wellbeing, or Community Development and Indigenous Studies, providing all entry requirements are met.

Professional experience

As part of the degree, you will need to complete professional experience placements. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional practice within this degree.

Residential schools

All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.
