  • Take the next step in your career with UniSQ’s Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electrical and Electronic). It will give you the freedom of choice to start your career right away or to set a stepping stone for further study.
  • The Bachelor of Engineering Technology gives you the opportunity to get hands-on with a range of technologies - including electrical and electronic equipment, measurement equipment, PLCs, microprocessors, power electronics and rotating machines, controllers and the Internet of Things - to prepare you for a broad range of field applications.
  • You’ll gain a thorough understanding of electrical theory, digital and analogue technologies, electrical plant and its control, electronic measurement principles and workshop practices, as well as engineering project management - enabling you to ensure a technological product and its operation are soundly based in theory.
  • As an electrical engineering technologist your work will focus on taking responsibility for engineering projects, services and facilities; making sure sustainable solutions and practices are employed which optimise the delivery and operation of complete systems in the fields of electronics, telecommunications, electricity generation or renewable technologies.

Professional accreditation

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology, you will be eligible to apply for graduate membership with Engineers Australia as an Graduate Engineering Technologist. After gaining experience working in your field in industry, you can apply for Stage 1 Technologist (TMIEAust) followed by chartered status as an Engineering Technologist (CEngT).

Note: Engineering Associates with extensive engineering experience, who articulate through this program may be eligible on application to Engineers Australia for fast-track TMIEAust accreditation.) You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in the countries that are signatories to the Sydney Accord.

Career outcomes

  • With your graduate expertise, you’ll be able to secure a career as an electrical or electronic Engineering Technologist, Senior Technical Offer or Senior Engineering Officer. You could land a great position with a major employers in transport, mining, power companies like Energy Queensland or Origin, as well have opportunities to work in one of the most important Australian major infrastructure providers and operators.
  • The Bachelor of Engineering Technology articulates to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Graduate Professional Engineer) or Master of Professional Engineering (Graduate Professional Engineer).
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology graduates with 5 years industry experience after graduation, or who have attained TMIEAust accreditation are eligible for enrolment consideration into the UniSQ Master of Engineering Practice in a related cognate major (noting MEPR graduates are eligible for application to engineers Australia as a MIEAust Professional Engineer).

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Professional Experience

As part of your Bachelor of Science Degree you will need to complete a minimum of 45 days of professional experience. However many UniSQ students are already employed in industries relevant to their studies and may be able to write up their work experience to meet this requirement. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this program.

Residential schools

If you are enrolled in the External study mode in this degree it is mandatory you attend on-campus for several residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face practicals and tutorials, use the facilities and meet staff and other students. Residential schools are one week long intensive sessions held periodically across a program of study, and provided free to students to complete the practical requirements of their program.
