  • Graduate sooner with our Bachelor of Laws. You have the option to fast-track your study and complete this degree in 2 years full-time over 6 consecutive semesters.
  • Study online or on-campus at either Ipswich or Toowoomba and engage with expert lecturers and fellow students who are as passionate about law as you are.
  • Prepare yourself to practice as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland, or a legal practitioner elsewhere in Australia. This degree is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board as an academic qualification for admission as a lawyer in Queensland.
  • Explore a range of law specialisations by undertaking electives in your areas of interest. 
  • Have confidence that you are gaining a quality, industry relevant law degree. An Advisory Committee of senior judges and lawyers have given this degree their professional endorsement. 
  • Learn from lecturers who have a wealth of experience in a diverse range of backgrounds, including criminal law, human rights, international and comparative law, family law, environmental law, property law and commercial law.
  • Hone your skills in simulated court hearings with UniSQ’s Wonderley & Hall Moot Court. Fully equipped with audio-visual and video conferencing capabilities, you’ll have access to this purpose built facility regardless of whether you study on-campus or online.
  • Become involved and expand your legal knowledge by attending our research seminars and public lectures, engaging in networking events, or becoming a member of the UniSQ Law Society.
     

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Laws has been accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, Queensland, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland as an approved academic qualification under the Supreme Court (Legal Practitioner Admission) Rules 2004 (Qld).

It has also been approved by the Australian Law Schools Standards Committee under the Standards for Australian Law Schools adopted by the Council of Australian Law Deans. This degree will partially satisfy the requirements to practise as a lawyer in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia. Intending lawyers must also complete an approved practical legal training course in order to become admitted to practise law. You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

How to get into Bachelor of Laws

To study a Bachelor of Laws you need a minimum ATAR as well as assumed knowledge in English (Units 3 & 4, C). ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree.

You can also transfer to the Bachelor of Laws after successfully completing the Legal Studies major within the Bachelor of Arts.

What can you do with a Bachelor of Laws?
A LLB degree can lead you down many career avenues within law and criminology, such as lawyer, solicitor, barrister, management consultant, judge's associate, investment banker, police officer, or corporate legal practitioner working in law firms, legal aid, community legal centres, law reform, the police force, legal recruitment and human resources, public interest advocacy, government, youth justice agencies, or politics.
Does a Bachelor of Laws make you a lawyer?
Gaining a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is only the first step in the process of becoming a practising lawyer. In addition to your law degree, you will also need to complete further training, gain admission into practice, and apply for a Practising Certificate. Specifics will vary depending on the state or territory you wish to practise in.
