Focusing on Prep to Year 6, Primary Education at UniSQ offers you the opportunity to gain the unique knowledge and expertise needed to educate young learners across all key learning areas. You’ll begin your professional experience placements early in your studies, with opportunities to complete placements in a variety of Primary education settings including rural, remote and overseas locations. Access to additional professional activities and industry networking opportunities will also enhance your employability and job readiness. 

Studying for a primary teaching degree at UniSQ will prepare you to confidently teach primary school students in a variety of contexts. You’ll be skilled across a range of subjects and be prepared to teach everything from maths to English, health, and science. At the age of 24 Constance Coverdale can just about count off the Master of Learning and Teaching as her third degree. In her third year of studying her now completed Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Connie began working as a Laboratory Technician at a local high school. What will I learn in a primary education degree?
By studying primary teaching, you will learn subject matter for a range of subjects, including maths, English, health, and science. You’ll also develop invaluable transferable skills, including collaboration, organisation, adaptability, communication, empathy and patience.
Is a primary education degree right for me?

If you’re on the fence about whether or not studying primary teaching is right for you, know that the skills you’ll develop in this course are highly transferable across many disciplines. As a registered teacher, you’ll have the skills and experience to teach students in Prep – Year 6 classrooms in metropolitan, rural, remote and international schools.

You’ll also be able to teach in hospitals or international schools, or work in human services, community-based government organisations and recreation and tourism industries.

What years can I teach with a primary education degree?
You can teach any year level from Kindergarten through to Year 6 with a primary education degree. However, some programs may focus on particular year levels. For example, you may choose to study a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with a focus on teaching Kindergarten or Early Childhood Education.
