"In recent weeks, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has shifted his attention towards the long-term economic future of Australia," Professor Carmignani said.

"Mr Albanese has announced an ambitious plan, with some interesting yet controversial references to the active role of government in boosting productivity and prosperity.

"The challenge is to translate this 'vision' into action, which in turn would require a much less orthodox budget than what we have seen in recent years, and we expect to see this year.

"Will the government shift gear with this budget?"
