VET pathways to USQ

The workforce of the future needs skill-based learning and theoretical knowledge. That's why USQ will be accepting VET qualifications as well as ATARs for commencing students from 2021.

USQ believes everyone should have the opportunity to access tertiary education, which is why we offer a range of preparation and alternative entry options.

If your year 10 students are planning on using their Vocational Education and Training (VET) as an entry point to USQ, you can assure them that USQ supports alternative pathways to uni.

What does this mean?

At USQ we welcome all applications - school leaver and non-school leaver - with VET and Performing Arts qualifications. We have decided to keep our current policy of allowing year 12 school-leavers to utilise their VET or Performing Arts results as an entry point to study at USQ.

Students can build an entry rank solely on their VET or Performing Arts qualifications, or (in the case of completed VET) use it as part of an ATAR calculation to gain entry to USQ tertiary study in conjunction with our normal entry requirements.

What rank will I get for my VET qualification?

Currently USQ allocates the following selection ranks for completed Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) qualifications:

  • Certificate III – 68
  • Certificate IV – 74
  • Diploma – 82
  • Advanced Diploma – 91

Selection ranks can be higher or lower for graded qualifications depending on your GPA, or how may courses you have done if you have an incomplete Diploma or Advance Diploma.

The selection rank will be decimalised in 2021 just like an ATAR. For example, the current selection rank of 82 will become selection rank 82.00 in 2021.

USQ Year 11 Scholarships

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is pleased to offer Year 11 high school students studying a VET Certificate III, the opportunity to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.

If you are currently in year 11 and your family is experiencing financial hardship, studying a VET Certificate III (or above) and not studying towards and ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank)(you maybe are eligible to apply for a Year 11 scholarship to support you to complete your studies during year 12. This scholarship is funded through USQ’s Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program (HEPPP) Scholarship.

How can I learn more?
