How to apply

Not all assessment items are able to be granted an extension. Before submitting an assessment extension request, check your StudyDesk to confirm you can apply for the assessment item.

To apply for an assessment extension, please complete the online Assessment Extension application via your Student Centre > Online Requests tile > New Request > Assessment Extension, attaching your supporting documentation.

A full list of reasons and approved supporting documentation can be found in our Assessment Extension Guidelines.

You must submit your application and supporting documentation prior to the published due date of your assignment.

Students impacted by COVID-19 lockdown

A student statement will be considered sufficient evidence for initial assessment extension requests related to COVID-19 impacts. The statement must outline when the circumstances became known to you and how they affected your ability to submit your assessment by the due date.

Guidelines for Assessment Extensions
A full list of reasons and approved supporting documentation can be found in our Assessment Extension Guidelines.
If you are applying for an assessment extension based on medical grounds, you must obtain documentation from a medical practitioner on or before the assessment item's due date.

If you have a disability, learning difficulty, mental health or medical condition that impacts on your studies, Learning Support Plans are available. Book an appointment with a Student Equity Officer to discuss your needs.
Employment is not usually accepted as a special circumstance. We will consider your application if your employer has directed you to undertake unforeseen or extraordinary work commitments and you can provide supporting documentation from your employer.
An extension based on compassionate reasons may be granted for a family or personal circumstance that has arisen and is beyond your control.
If you apply for an assessment extension based on other grounds you must submit relevant supporting documentation relating to your circumstances.
Discretionary activities or circumstances within your control and/or foreseeable events will not constitute grounds for an assessment extension.
You may submit an assessment extension request for longer than a week in accordance with the Assessment of Special Circumstance Procedure. Longer requests may result in a Deferred Assessment. If the extension date is after the last teaching day of the Semester, the assessment will be considered a Deferred Assessment.

Once assessed you will be advised of the outcome of your request (approved or declined) via email.

If you are unhappy with the outcome, you may request a review of decision in accordance with the Review of Decision Procedure.
